Located just minutes from Carolina Beach off College Road near Eugene Ashley High School is the established community of Monterey Heights. This neighborhood was developed in the 1970s and includes brick ranch style homes that have stood the test of time. Mature trees surround the homes and on Cathay Road is the Monterey Heights park, featuring a covered picnic area, playground for 2-5 year-olds, playground for 5-12 year-olds, large lawn area, and a .3 mile paved walking trail.
Homes in Monterey Heights range from 2-4 bedrooms (most are 3), 1-2 bathrooms, and 900-2100 square-feet of living space. Lots range from .23-.43 acres. Some of the properties have garages, but the majority of those sold in the past few years have not had them.
Though these homes were built in the 1970s and 1980s, many have received upgrades. The higher selling properties have updated flooring, bathrooms, kitchen cabinets, and countertops. Some have even been renovated to include a more modern open floor plan.

Monterey Heights is a great community for first-time home buyers and investors. The median sale price is $125,000* with homes as low as the $70,000s (investor specials) and as high as the $178,000s (complete remodels). There’s a wide range to choose from depending on the amount of work a buyer is willing to do.
