Coastal Estates

Coastal Estates (formerly Coastal Plantation) is an affordably priced active adult community located just north of Wilmington, North Carolina in Hampstead and is restricted to individuals 55 and older. It features a clubhouse, pool, golf practice area, fishing pond, private roads for walking or biking, and several social activities and events throughout the year.  Homeowners in this community own their homes but lease the land.

The 55 or older restriction applies to only one of the occupants of the home, but every other household member must be 40 or older. Though sometimes seeming odd, the age restriction ensures that Coastal Estates remains quiet and respectful, but also active and fun. All residents of Coastal Estates are at a similar stage of life, making it feel more like an welcoming community than just another neighborhood.

Hampstead is a thriving area that is only continuing to grow as new developments are planned and built. Downtown Hampstead was once the quintessential definition of a small town. Its only markings in the middle of a pine forest were a three-way stop and a small cottage on the side of the road. Though the town has grown considerably since those days, the mindset hasn’t changed much. It’s hard to be uptight when you’re only a hop, skip, and jump away from the Intracoastal Waterway or half hour from Topsail or Wrightsville Beach.

Hampstead’s relaxed, small town atmosphere has endured the major developments. Even though bigger chains have moved into the area, many small businesses ranging from jewelers to burger joints continue to thrive in the area. Though appreciative of the chains’ larger selection, locals still flock to small businesses with which they grew up. Many Coastal Estates residents also venture into the larger city of Wilmington, especially downtown, which is only a half hour away. Downtown Wilmington is filled with over two centuries of history and features many historical landmarks. Additionally, the area has seen a resurgence in recent years with new businesses popping up and old local favorites doing well.
