For some time now, all-white kitchens have been the major trend in homes. In response to that, ELLE Décor has predicted kitchen finishes will naturally gravitate toward bold patterned backsplashes and warmer, darker countertops in 2019. Now, that doesn’t mean the two trends will be exclusive to each other. We will potentially see white cabinets with bolder tile and gray cabinets with darker countertops, and vice versa. Whichever direction is taken, the goal is to add more pop and pizzazz to one of the most popular rooms in the home.
Here are some ways you can incorporate these two trends into your home…
Warmer, Darker Kitchen Countertops
Granite usually provides the most options for darker, warmer colors for countertops. This countertop from Amanzi Granite is one example of what we could be seeing more of in 2019.

Many homes have white cabinets and we’ll continue to see white cabinets installed in new homes, but the countertop trend could spread to more warmer colors, like this granite countertop from McGranite Countertops.

The Kitchen Man has two great examples of darker kitchen countertops. The first is this large kitchen island. The cabinets are white and the other countertops are light, but that sets up a nice contrast in the whole design.

The second is this distressed center island with a textured countertop. This island is also different than the rest of the countertops and cabinets, but the color of the stone compliments the warm tones of the other materials.

Boldly Patterned Backsplashes
While countertops in kitchens trend away from light colors, backsplashes are expected to transition to bold patterns that will make a strong impact on the room’s style. This creates a great opportunity for Moroccan style tile to come to the forefront in popularity. Buckminster Green’s Northern Liberties Rowhouse has the perfect example of such tile.

While bright colors will always make your kitchen style pop, bold patterns can also mean neutral colors in creative shapes, like this gorgeous Pacific Terrazzo backsplash from Cement Tile Shop.
