Due to shared walls and maintenance, townhomes generally have lower costs than single-family homes in the same area. They also provide the owner the opportunity to possess land, which can be great for a patio, dog-walk, grilling area, etc. In Wilmington’s unique downtown area, townhouses aren’t all that common. Many are created from converted historic homes and buildings. However, there are a few townhome communities in downtown Wilmington to make note of. For townhome buyers who want to be located near the Cape Fear River, Wimble Square is a great option. It’s located on the corner of S. Front Street and Ann Street, and some of the units have waterviews. Horse drawn carriage rides pass by every day and the Children’s Museum is just around the corner. It’s also within walking distance of the Riverwalk, so residents aren’t far from fine dining and entertainment.

Looking for something truly special? Governors Landing is a prestigious gated townhome community located on Nun Street right along the Cape Fear River. The townhomes are surrounded by a gorgeous English garden and the community has its own private dock. A small river walkway connects directly to the Riverwalk where there’s excellent waterfront dining just steps away. Properties like this are hard to find in the downtown area.
Not everyone is into the older townhomes of the Historic District. For them, there are a couple of modern options, including the brand new TIME Townhomes located in the Brooklyn Arts District. Right now, they’re still in the presale stage, but will include 10 units total. They will have floor-to-ceiling windows, rooftop accesses, and covered balconies with expansive views. On the first level will be garages, a major draw for the downtown area. They will also be within walking distance of the Port City Marina, Riverwalk, PPD, and CFCC.
The next townhome complex is also located in the Brooklyn Arts District – Rogue Townes. These townhomes are immediately recognizable due to their unique purple and black exterior. They are three stories tall with a private garage and flex space on the first level, the main open living space on the second, and 2-3 bedrooms located on the top floor. Off the living area is a very neat covered balcony, which doubles as a sunroom thanks to a sliding door that can be pulled down during cooler weather. They are located within walking distance of some great dining options, as well as the Brooklyn Arts Center.
Each of these townhome communities allow residents to enjoy the urban setting of downtown Wilmington at a generally lower cost. However, due to their size, units are not always available. If any of these communities really stood out to you, we’d be happy to notify you when a unit comes on the market. We can also find you townhomes outside of organized complexes, as well as in other areas of Wilmington. Please don’t hesitate to contact us.
