Have You Lost That Lovin’ Feeling?

Have You Lost That Lovin’ Feeling?

….for your home? We know how it is, you fall in love with a home, move in, live there a few years, and then something clicks. You start to feel antsy. The house you live in is no longer your dream home. Maybe your family has grown, and you’re lacking the space and features to make your life easier. Maybe your job has changed and you have a longer community. Maybe you’ve seen a lifestyle change and need more room for hobbies. Whatever it is, you’re feeling the need for a change.

This is when we’re supposed to say, “List with us and we’ll also help you buy!” In a perfect world, this would be the easy answer. Believe us, we are ALWAYS happy to help buyers transition into their next home. We love real estate and making people happy! However, we realize that it’s not as easy as it sounds. Finances, responsibilities, and family make it hard to make quick transitions. Sometimes, you just need to fall back in love…at least for a short time.

But how do you do that? Here are some suggestions:

Change the color scheme! Put a fresh coat of paint on your walls and try to pick a hue that’s uplifting. It’s amazing how the colors your see every day affect the way you feel and painting is one of the cheapest projects you can take on.

Pick one thing about your house that you hate and fix it. It doesn’t have to be anything big, like lack of square-footage (because we know how easy THAT is to fix!), but something you have control over. Not happy with your kitchen cabinets/storage options? There are some really useful cabinet organizers that you can purchase at Lowes and install yourself. They slide out from the cabinet and allow you to take full advantage of the space when storing pans, cleaning supplies, etc. There’s also a bunch of DIY projects on Pinterest for organizing seasonings, cans, etc.

Does your home feel dated? Handles, knobs, wall plates, etc. are relatively cheap and easy for you to install. New light fixtures can also be a breath of fresh air, but if you don’t have electrical experience, make sure you hire someone who does, because you don’t want to cause any permanent damage.

Finally, try to remember why you bought the home in the first place and write down special moments that happened in the home – first steps, holidays, bringing your puppy home for the first time, etc. – and put them in a jar. When something new happens, add to it. When you’re feeling anxious, pull them out and read them again.

When you’re ready to sell, we’ll be here. If it helps, setup a custom listing search on our website. By the time you’re ready to sell, you’ll know exactly what you’re looking for in a home. Let us know you’re just watching the market, and we won’t bug you – promise!
