If you’re looking for a fun way to celebrate Independence Day in Wilmington, the City of Wilmington’s Fourth of July Celebration is a great event to add to your July calendar. Held along the downtown riverfront, this annual celebration brings together live music, food, entertainment, and fireworks for a classic summer evening by the Cape Fear River.
This year’s event is scheduled for Saturday, July 4, 2026, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Riverfront Park, located at 10 Cowan Street in Wilmington. The event is free to attend and will be held rain or shine.
What to Expect at Wilmington’s Fourth of July Celebration
The evening will include music, entertainment, kids’ activities, food and beverages available for purchase, and a fireworks display to close out the night. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., followed by live entertainment at 6:30 p.m. The Wilmington Symphony Orchestra is scheduled to perform at 7:30 p.m., leading up to fireworks at 9:00 p.m.
In recognition of America’s 250th anniversary, this year’s fireworks display will include two simultaneous fireworks shows: one launched near Riverfront Park and another from a barge near the Battleship. According to the city, spectators will be able to best view the displays along the Riverwalk.
Tips Before You Go
Guests are encouraged to plan ahead, especially when it comes to parking and traffic. The city notes that some downtown parking decks will charge a special event fee after 4:00 p.m., while on-street metered parking will be free. Traffic delays are also expected after the fireworks, so it’s a good idea to arrive early and think through your exit route before choosing where to park.
Beach chairs with legs no longer than 9 inches and blankets are allowed in the lawn area. Food and beverages will be sold at the park, and the event will be cashless, so be prepared to pay with a debit card, credit card, or mobile payment option.
